چکیده

Expressions for error probabilities have been derived for commonly used signal constellations such as QAM and MPSK. However, closed form expressions cannot be found for more complex signal constellations such as hexagonally packed signals. Saddle point integration (SPI) has been shown to be an efficient method of evaluating the one dimensional cumulative distribution function (CDF) of a random variable. SPI integrates the moment generating function (MGF) of the test statistic instead of probability density function (PDF). In this paper, the SPI method is used to evaluate Pe for general, complex signal constellations. The first step is to determine the decision regions for each symbol using an algorithm from the graphics literature for calculating Voronoi diagrams. Next, these decision regions are subdivided into subregions that can evaluated using SPI. The SPI method is very flexible and allows one to model many different system effects such as phase offset, DC offset, and colored noise.

Equivalent Codes, Optimality, and Performance Analysis of OSTBC: Textbook Study

An equivalent model for a multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) communication system with orthogonal space-time block codes (OSTBCs) is proposed based on a newly revealed connection between OSTBCs and Euclidean codes. Examples of distance spectra, signal constellations, and signal coordinate diagrams of Euclidean codes equivalent to simplest OSTBCs are given. A new asymptotic upper bound for the sym...

Error Performance of Multidimensional Lattice Constellations–Part I: A Parallelotope Geometry Based Approach for the AWGN Channel

Multidimensional lattice constellations which present signal space diversity (SSD) have been extensively studied for single-antenna transmission over fading channels, with focus on their optimal design for achieving high diversity gain. In this two-part series of papers we present a novel combinatorial geometrical approach based on parallelotope geometry, for the performance evaluation of multi...

Asymptotic error probability analysis of quadratic receivers in Rayleigh-fading channels with applications to a unified analysis of coherent and noncoherent space-Time receivers

A general, asymptotic (high signal-to-noise (SNR)) error analysis is introduced for quadratic receivers in frequency-flat and multipath Rayleigh-fading channels with multiple transmit and receive antennas. Asymptotically tight expressions for the pairwise error probabilities are obtained for coherent, noncoherent, and differentially coherent space–time receivers. Not only is our unified analysi...

ML-oriented NDA carrier synchronization for general rotationally symmetric signal constellations

In this contribution we point out that the nondecision-aided (NDA) carrier synchronizer, maximizing the low E s / N o limit of the likelihood function averaged over a general 2r/N-rotationally symmetric signal constellation, reduces to the familiar timing-aided Nth power synchronizer; this extends a result from [6] where only M-PSK constellations have been considered. Whereas in the case of M-P...

Channel Capacity and Constellation Optimization of M -PAM Input AWGN Channels with Non-equiprobable Symbols

In this letter, we show how to compute optimal constellations which maximize the capacity of M -PAM input AWGN (MIAWGN) channels with non-equiprobable symbols. We find for binary signaling that the optimal constellations, which minimize the bit error rate, will also maximize the capacity. The rate capacity of MIAWGN channels with non-equiprobable symbols and optimal constellations approaches to...
